Moscow Reaffirms Backing for Venezuela Amid U.S. Tensions
The Russian Foreign Ministry released a statement pressing both nations to pursue de-escalation measures. "Russia consistently advocates for the normalization of dialogue between Washington and Caracas. We are convinced that steps are needed to de-escalate the situation and find solutions to existing problems and differences in a constructive manner, with respect for international legal norms," the ministry declared.
Moscow underscored its vision for Latin America and the Caribbean as conflict-free zones where nations can pursue autonomous development without external interference.
"We reaffirm our solidarity with the Venezuelan people in the face of trials they are experiencing, as well as our support for the course pursued by the (President) Nicolas Maduro government aimed at defending national interests and the sovereignty of the homeland," the statement continued.
Trump's Blockade Bombshell
The Russian intervention follows Tuesday's explosive announcement by US President Donald Trump, who declared a comprehensive blockade targeting all sanctioned oil tankers conducting operations with Venezuela.
Trump delivered stark warnings of what he termed "unprecedented shock" against Caracas, demanding the return of oil, territory, and additional assets he claims were "stolen" from the US.
His provocative remarks coincided with pledges to launch imminent military operations against narcotics traffickers on land—part of Washington's intensified campaign against drug smuggling operations throughout Central and South American coastal waters.
Venezuela responded through its UN envoy, Samuel Moncada, who drew parallels between current US actions and World War II aggressors. Moncada accused the Trump administration of systematically undermining global diplomatic frameworks.
