Seven U.S. Military Personnel Wounded in Venezuela Raid
Two service members remain under medical treatment while five have already returned to active duty, media disclosed, citing a senior administration official with direct knowledge of the mission.
"They are receiving excellent medical care and are well on their way to recovery," the official was quoted as saying. "The fact that this extremely complex and grueling mission was successfully executed with so few injuries is a testament to the expertise of our joint warriors."
US military forces executed coordinated airstrikes early Saturday across northern Venezuela, systematically dismantling air defense installations and communications networks while elite special operations units stormed the capital Caracas to apprehend Maduro and Flores.
Both detainees entered not guilty pleas during their initial court appearance on drug trafficking and weapons charges.
The Trump administration has characterized the military intervention as a renewed application of the Monroe Doctrine—a historic policy asserting US dominance in the Western Hemisphere—combined with efforts to dismantle narcotics trafficking networks and root out government corruption. Officials have also openly acknowledged strategic objectives tied to controlling Venezuela's massive petroleum reserves, among the world's largest proven oil deposits.
